Thun Tankers receives two LNG-powered vessels

Swedish coastal shipping firm Thun Tankers has received the first L-Class and second E-Class vessels simultaneously to strengthen its fleet size.

The 18,650 deadweight product tanker Thun Lidkoping is 149.8m-long and the first in a series of five quality tankers built by Chinese firm Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding.

Dutch firm Ferus Smit delivered the E-Class vessel to Thun Tankers. The 8,000 deadweight vessel known as Thun Evolve is 114.95m-long and the second in a series of four ordered E-Class tankers.

The Shipyard Ferus Smit, which has built 33 quality vessels for Erik Thun, said that Thun Evolve can run on natural gas and biogas.

The two L-Class and the E-Class tankers have been designed and developed in-house, using Erik Thun’s experience of building sustainable, quality vessels.

Thun Tankers CCO Joakim Lund said: “It is a historic day for our company with the delivery of both Thun Lidkoping and Thun Evolve on the same day.

With the E-Class and L-Class series in trade, we are further strengthening Gothia Tanker Alliance’ possibility to serve our clients with climate-smart tankers in the right position at the requested time.”

Both the vessels will enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance network with crewing and technical management provided by MF Shipping Group.

Erik ThunGroup managing director Johan Källsson said: “These new tankers are part of our next-generation purpose-built and efficient vessels, enabling us to remain a sustainable Swedish partner over generations.”

Thun Tankers completed the naming ceremony for the two new tankers last month on-site at the AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding.
