Government of Peru finances CNG conversions with BonoGas program
In accordance with the government’s goal of improving the quality of life of Peruvians, through initiatives such as the widespread adoption of natural gas, the Ministry of Energy and Mining is promoting vehicle conversions to natural gas with resources from the Energy Fund for Social Inclusion (FISE) through the BonoGas Vehicle Program.
This program, implemented for eight months, provides an accessible financing with an interest rate of approximately 3%, in a term of up to five years, so that drivers who own light vehicles can migrate to the use of safer and more economic natural gas. In this way, it also contributes to substantially reduce the volume of polluting gases that are emitted daily.
Since September 2018 to date, there are already more than 1,321 drivers in Lima, Callao, Ica and Huancayo who have opted to convert their vehicles to CNG, driven by credit access facilities and better interest rates offered by BonoGas. It is expected that by the end of this year, the figure will exceed 15,000 vehicles converted.
Only in Lima the number of converted cars totals 1,204. The districts that have registered the most conversions to date are: Santiago de Surco (246), Surquillo (215), San Martin de Porres (127), Lima (125), San Juan de Lurigancho (110), Villa El Salvador (110) and Commas (100). These are joined by Callao, Ica and Huancayo, which exceed the 100 conversions.
The financing of BonoGas is granted through financial institutions, in virtue of an agreement signed with the FISE, currently administered by the Supervisory Body of the Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin). At present, there are 87 conversion workshops, three financial institutions and six certifying companies associated with financial institutions to execute the program.
The owners of vehicles belonging to M1 category (four wheels), which are less than or equal to 10 years old and have approved the technical pre-inspection in a vehicle conversion workshop authorized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, will be eligible for the program.
