Gasnam Congress: MOVEA Plan to allocate more than €2M to NGVs
On March 8, the 5th edition of the annual conference of the Iberian Association of Natural Gas for Mobility, GASNAM, was held in Madrid under the motto “Natural gas guarantees air quality.” The presentations and round tables of the day were divided into two parallel sections (road and maritime). In both cases, the 450 registered attendees were able to know the different success stories as well as the new national and European projects presented from Spain and Portugal, related to mobility with natural gas.
Road section
José Luis Pérez-Souto, Land Area Vice-President of GASNAM, and Luis Fernando Velasco Gimeno, head of Vehicle Area of the General Direction of Traffic, were in charge to introduce the road section, which included several presentations and round tables about administrative support, infrastructure, transportation and mobility with natural gas.
Juan Alberto Ortigosa, head of the Automotive Area of the General Subdirectorate of Industrial Policies of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, presented a draft of the new MOVEA plan. The Ministry plans to allocate 2.08 million euros to natural gas vehicles, a figure higher than last year due to the success of the demand.
Subsequently, Carla García, of the technical services of the GASNAM Land Area; Gloria Etxebarria, responsible for the Transport Area of the Basque Energy Entity; Jorge Juan Jiménez, Director of Planning and Energy Management in the Public Administration of the Andalusian Energy Agency, and Miquel Àngel Escobar i Mariné, Head of Efficient Mobility of the Catalan Institute of Energy, were in charge of a series of presentations on the infrastructure of natural gas in the Iberian peninsula and how they are prepared to attend to the growing demand.
Maritime section
José Poblet, Maritime Vice-President of GASNAM, and Rafael Rodríguez Valero, general director of the Merchant Marine, inaugurated the Maritime section. Agustín Benjumeda from Endesa was in charge of moderating the first round table of the morning: “Vessels supplying natural gas as fuel.”
Manuel Carlier of the Association of Spanish Shipping Companies presented a series of presentations on the technology and design of LNG ships. Mercedes de Juan, head of R+D+i projects at the ValenciaPort Foundation, explained the transformation of a dual-fuel diesel engine. Guillermo Alomar of Baleària spoke about the bet of his company and its new ships under construction, and José Poblet of COTENAVAL referred to the completion of the Abel Matutes project. Finally, Carlos Fernández of Gabadi presented LNG Brick technology: membrane tanks for the use of LNG to bunker ships.
Jorge Pinto of DNV GL introduced the state of global implementation of LNG as marine fuel. Fernando Tax of Enagás explained the project Core LNGas Hive. Panos Mitrou of Lloyd’s Register, talked about the Poseidon Project, and finally Carolina Remiro of Bureau Veritas HO presented a paper on the bunkering of LNG to ships.
The V GASNAM Congress was inaugurated on March 7 and the first sessions were attended by María Neira of the WHO, who spoke about how the energy we use in mobility has a greater impact on people’s health. Representatives of several political parties also took part in a roundtable discussion on the benefits of natural gas in environmental policy. Throughout the morning the attendees were able to enjoy several roundtables and presentations of representatives and managers of companies in the sector, as well as local, regional and national administrations.
