Baleària gets award for leadership in LNG & environmental management

Baleària presented its commitment to the use of LNG in its fleet at the Shippax Ferry Conference 2020-2021, which takes place on a Copenhagen-Oslo-Copenhagen crossing. The Fleet Director Guillermo Alomar participated in a round table on retrofit and conversion of ships to run on LNG, in which the shipping company is a pioneer worldwide.

During the event, Shippax presented an award to Baleària recognizing its environmental management and its leadership in the use of natural gas in its fleet, which allows it to reduce polluting emissions. This is the 18th edition of this event organized annually by the Swedish Shippax group and which brings together nearly 500 delegates from some 60 shipping companies from around the world.

Baleària already has eight ships sailing on LNG, three of them newly built (Marie Curie, Hypatia de Alejandría and Eleanor Roosevelt) and another five (Sicilia, Abel Matutes, Napoles, Bahama Mama and Martin i Soler) that were converted to adapt their engines to run on this eco-friendly fuel.

In addition, Baleària has planned a last retrofit operation on its ship Hedy Lamarr, starting in October. In all this sustainable ship project, the shipping company has invested about 380 million euros, while in the project of the six conversions, it had the support of CEF funds from the European Union.
