Spain: Segovia completes fleet of natural gas waste collection trucks

The Mayor of Segovia Clara Martín, the Councilor for the Environment Ángel Galindo, the Director of the FCC-Environment Delegation in Castilla y León Javier Rivas, and the Head of service in Segovia Fernando Ibáñez presented the complete fleet of CNG vehicles for the waste collection and street cleaning service.

In March the first trucks arrived and the natural gas station was opened. Gradually, the rest of the fleet was incorporated during a transition period in which the new vehicles have operated alongside the old ones, until the latter have been definitively replaced.

The service has 18 CNG-powered vehicles: 10 garbage collection trucks (6 side loading, 3 rear loading, 1 top loading and 1 open box of 5 cubic meters), 2 container washers (1 for side loading and 1 for rear loading), 3 flushing tanks and 3 vehicles of other types of collection (1 mobile recycling point and 2 open box).

The concession company will maintain some of the old trucks for use on specific occasions when more machinery is required, although the ordinary service will only be carried out with natural gas vehicles.

These 18 NGVs are added to the 22 electric vehicles that have already been incorporated into the service. With this fleet, the Segovia City Council reaffirms its commitment to greater efficiency and environmental sustainability, one of the main objectives set with the launch of the new cleaning service.
