JAPAN, OMAN APPOINT FIRST OMANI LNG VESSEL CAPTAIN

Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) said August 18 it was joining its Omani counterparts in announcing the appointment of the first Omani captain serving on a jointly-owned LNG carrier.

MOL has been working with Oman’s shipping company Asyad since the early 2000s, when the latter was established as state-owned Oman Shipping Company. MOL at the time signed a partnership agreement with the Omani business to support widespread growth in the shipping industry.

“Training of seafarers is an important issue for the growth of the ocean shipping industry,” MOL said.

MOL did not identify either the name of the captain or the name of the LNG carrier.

The Japanese company plans to launch 90 LNG-fuelled vessels by 2030 as part of its net zero by 2050 aspirations.
