Gazprom joins Kamaz to develop Russian natural gas vehicle market

OJSC Kamaz (part of Rostec state corporation) and OJSC Gazprom signed a cooperation agreement to work on natural gas fuel market development. The participants being disposed to long-term and steady mutually advantageous trade and economic relations development made decision to launch a natural gas vehicle program including manufacturing, testing and implementation.

Automakers, in return, will organize natural gas vehicle production and also take a share in technical facilities for vehicle customization. Gazprom, in its turn, will coordinate construction of natural gas refueling infrastructure in places with compact equipment installation and will also contribute to transportation testing. Specialized company Gazprom Gas Engine Fuel will act as a contractor.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Sergey Kogogin, director general of OJSC Kamaz, and Alexey Miller, Chairman of the board of OJSC Gazprom. Intention of Gazprom Group of companies to acquire Kamaz vehicles and spare parts for own use is reflected also in the agreement. Under the terms of the contract, Kamaz will also carry out aftersales service and automotive equipment repair.

It is expected that Gazprom will annually forward to Kamaz plans for acquisition volumes and a list of required models. Kamaz, in case of own aftersales service infrastructure creation in Gazprom Group of companies, will promote delivery of all required spare parts and special tools, diagnostic equipment, service documentation and software, as well as trucks and special equipment based on Kamaz chassis service experts training.
