CNG-driven Daily starts operations for São Paulo based companies

Iveco, in partnership with the Union of Transport Companies of São Paulo (Setcesp) and the Natural Gas Company of São Paulo (Comgás), is testing the Daily 35C14G CNG that will be operated by several companies in this region of Brazil: Expresso Mirassol, Jamef, Mira Transportes, RG Log, Tex Courier and West Air Cargo.

On January 27, at the headquarters of Setcesp, a CNG powered Daily was delivered to Mira Transportes, the first company to test the vehicle in São Paulo for a month. “This initiative aims to help preserve the environment and the development of reliable vehicles using natural gas for transport in major urban centers. We are happy to be part of the project,” said Arílson Abreu, fleet manager at Mira Transportes.

Since 2011, Iveco has conducted a series of tests with vehicles powered by alternative fuels. Companies from different sectors have tested two CNG Daily, two 17-ton Tector fitted for garbage collection services, a natural gas fueled bus and a biomethane truck. In this pilot project, Comgás will provide fuel for the period during which the vehicle will be tested. “We believe CNG is and will be the best option in terms of economy and performance,” said Comgás Marketing Director Ricardo Vallejo.

The natural gas Daily allows 84% reduction in emissions of NOx, 25% cut in CO2 and 96% less particulate matter compared to an Euro 3 diesel vehicle. “Our goal is to test and demonstrate the efficiency of vehicles powered by alternative fuels, either for freight or passengers transportation,” said Fábio Nicora, product engineer and head of the Department of Innovation at Iveco.
