Classic Motors premieres Honda City CNG car in Trinidad and Tobago

The dealer has launched the Caribbean’s first ever Honda City running on natural gas. The bi-fuel vehicle includes a 65-liter CNG tank and a 40-liter gasoline capacity. It costs $150,000, $35,000 cheaper than the comparable gasoline variant, according to Ansa Automotive managing director Jerome Borde, and will help drivers save 85% in fuel costs, reported Trinidad Express.

“The Honda City CNG will make it even more convenient and enjoyable to tap into the desirable and abundant supply of natural gas that lies beneath Trinidad,” said Jim Burrell, assistant vice-president of American Honda Motor Company at the launch of the City CNG as well as the Honda HR-V on the local market at Classic Motors Showroom in Port of Spain.

“According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Honda Civic natural gas that we sell in the U.S. has the cleanest internal combustion engine ever certified by this agency,” added Burrell. “City CNG, which we are introducing in Trinidad, is based on the same advanced technology.” He also said American Honda sells the City throughout the Caribbean, but only this country has the CNG version.

Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine attended the launching and informed that five CNG stations are being upgraded and constructed bringing to 18 the number of such stations in the country. “We recognize that to incentivize people to buy natural gas vehicles, they have to know where they are going to fill them,” he stated.
