Argentina: new power plant will feature Wärtsilä dual fuel engines

Wärtsilä will supply a 100 MW dual-fuel plant to AlbaresRenovables in Argentina. The turn-key order includes six Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines running on gas and heavy fuel oil. The order is one of five contracts that Wärtsilä was recently awarded in Argentina. These orders were announced in a stock exchange release in July.

Wärtsilä’s scope of supply for the project with AlbaresRenovables has, after negotiations, been extended from equipment delivery only to a full turn-key project. The value of the order is now estimated to be EUR 72 million. The plant is expected to be delivered in early 2017 and operational in August the same year.

When installed, the Central Termica Pilar Power Plant will also recover all the heat that is produced from the plant and make it available to nearby companies, thereby improving their competitiveness.

“We selected the Wärtsilä technology at an early stage of the process because of their dual-fuel experience and Wärtsilä’s good reputation,” said Enrique Madrid, Technical Director at AlbaresRenovables.

“We are very pleased to cooperate with AlbaresRenovables on this project and contribute to strengthening the national grid in Argentina,” added Kent Westergård, Sales Director at Wärtsilä in America.
