Angola LNG resumes natural gas exports in first quarter of 2016
Natural gas exports by the Angola LNG company will only resume in the first quarter of 2016, with gas processing starting in the fourth quarter of this year, the Angolan company said in a statement published in Luanda.
Natural gas processing was suspended on 10 April, 2014 due to a failure in one of the pipelines of the gas flaring system. The statement gave assurances that the incident did not cause any human or environmental damage and that the production stoppage had been extended to allow the contractor, US company Bechtel, to repair the faults and improve production capacity.
Angola LNG said it would extract, process and sell 5.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year, as well as propane, butane and condensate in its manufacturing facilities in Soyo, northern Zaire province, north of Angola, which it considers is “one of the most modern processing plants in the world.”
The company’s partners are Chevron US (36.4 percent), Sonangol (22.8 percent), BP Exploration, ENI of Italy and Total of France with 13.6 percent each.
The Angola LNG partners have so far invested over US$10 billion, one of the largest investments ever in the Angolan oil industry, and besides its gas processing facilities have a fleet of seven tankers and three loading docks.
