Times of India Bittu demands CNG for Punjab LUDHIANA:
Raising the issue of environmental pollution mainly caused due to vehicles, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu has written a letter to minister of petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan demanding the provision of clean fuel, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) at all filling stations in Punjab.
Pointing at important issues in Punjab, focusing on Ludhiana, Bittu informed that environmental pollution caused with vehicles has not only affected the weather condition, but also led to health problems among the denizens of the state. He further informed that the environmentalists have also cautioned of bad weather conditions in coming years due to manifold increase in pollution levels in which vehicular pollution is a major contributor.
While giving example of national capital, Delhi, Bittu said with the availability of CNG as vehicular fuel the capital has somewhat controlled air pollution and to prevent further degradation of environment in Punjab it is the need of the hour for government to provide CNG at all filling stations. This will also encourage people to run their vehicles on CNG.
Sharing his observation, he has written that large number of three wheelers ( auto-rickshaws) running on roads are considered as lifeline for the people of Ludhiana and with the availability of CNG and its proper implementation, the major problem in the most polluted city of Punjab will be solved. Moreover, the CNG run vehicles will also save fuel expenses – as compared to diesel and petrol.
