12 hikes in June push petrol rate to 20-month high

Petrol has crossed Rs 85 a litre and diesel Rs 75. A member of the Petrol Dealers’ Association confirmed the rate is the highest in the past 20 months. Petrol price in the city had last hit Rs 85 in October 2018

MUMBAIFuel prices have increased for the 12th day in a row in the city.

Petrol has crossed Rs 85 a litre and diesel Rs 75. A member of the Petrol Dealers’ Association confirmed the rate is the highest in the past 20 months. Petrol price in the city had last hit Rs 85 in October 2018. On Friday, the retail price of petrol will be Rs 85.21 a litre and diesel Rs 75.53.

There was a heavy rush at fuel pumps on Thursday. “I find it convenient to travel by car in monsoon. Besides, it is better to get my car filled with petrol before prices rise further,” said a Bhandup car owner.

Transporters are upset. “Over 65 per cent of transportation costs are on diesel. The nearly Rs 9 hike this month is unwarranted. It may cause prices of essentials to rise,” said an All India Motor Transport Congress member.
