Spain: HAM opens the first natural gas station in Extremadura

The first natural gas station in the autonomous community of Extremadura is located in Mérida, at exit 341 of the A-5 or Southwest motorway, also known as the Extremadura highway, one of the six radial highways that can be found in Spain. After being one of the first companies to provide LNG for industrial use in Extremadura, HAM is now betting on the NGV sector in this region. “We were the first to install a mobile LNG unit and now we open the first permanent station for CNG and LNG,” said the group in a press release. This new filling station is strategically located, since it will allow refuel CNG and LNG to all those vehicles that cover the route between Madrid and Lisbon. In addition, the A-5 route links the autonomous communities of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura. Moreover, the facility is located on the vertical axis that represents the A66, which goes from north to south of Extremadura, and connects Seville with Oviedo. The HAM station, which will be open to the public 24/7, has a double CNG dispenser for light vehicles and trucks and a double LNG dispenser for heavy trucks. This double-dispenser system, designed and manufactured by HAM, allows two vehicles to be refueled at the same time in a single dispenser. With the opening of the first natural gas station in Extremadura, HAM currently has 30 refueling points in Spain and the rest of Europe. This confirms their commitment to natural gas as an alternative, efficient, clean and sustainable fuel, which minimizes the negative impact on the environment by reducing NOx, fine particle and SOx emissions, which affect air quality. In addition, the use of natural gas allows savings between 30-50%, compared to the use of fossil fuels derived from oil, which have a higher rate of contamination. HAM is one of the main supporters of sustainable mobility and a pioneer in the promotion of natural gas in the Iberian Peninsula, a region that has experienced great growth in the adoption of CNG and LNG as transportation fuels. In this extremely encouraging scenario, AltFuels Iberia 2019 will take place on 11-14 June at IFEMA Trade Center, Madrid. It will be an event consisting of first level conferences and exhibition of vehicles of all kinds, refueling stations, components, plants, road and marine engines, as well as the entire universe of the alternative fuels industry with the latest technological developments, multiple options for networking, business and new advances.
