King inaugurates LNG terminal, maritime services wharf in Aqaba

His Majesty King Abdullah II, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah, the Crown Prince, inaugurated Sheikh Subah Al Ahmad Al Subah Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal and the maritime services wharf of the power ports in Aqaba.

His Majesty King Abdullah II, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah, the Crown Prince, on Thursday, inaugurated Sheikh Subah Al Ahmad Al Subah Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal and the maritime services wharf of the power ports in Aqaba.

The new projects will contribute to the development of the national economy, trade and services environment in Aqaba Special Economic Zone and enhance the Kingdom’s energy supply.

 

The LNG port aims to compensate for the shortfall in the Kingdom’s natural gas imports, diversify gas sources that is mainly used to generate electricity and make Aqaba’s port a regional center to secure various energy sources to neighboring Arab countries, which would put Jordan on the global natural gas map.

The Maritime services wharf, meanwhile, seeks to provide a technical platform for receiving and unloading LNG ships in the port of Aqaba, and also provide it with special maritime services at the highest international standards in the area of towing, counseling and providing marine safety requirements.

The King also toured Sheikh Sabah LNG Port’s facilities and was briefed about its functioning, and safety procedures, which are applied in accordance with the best international standards.

Inside the FSRU Golar Eskimo’s control room, King Abdullah inaugurated pumping the natural gas into the Arab gas pipeline to reach power stations in the Kingdom.
