3 foreign experts hurt in flame burst at Baghjan

DIBRUGARH: Three well-control experts from Singaporebased Alert Disaster Control were injured in a sudden burst of flames at Oil India Limited (OIL) Baghjan Well No. 5 in Assam’s Tinsukia on Wednesday.

The three specialists  Anthony Steven Reynolds, Doug Dallas and Craig Neil Duncan  suffered burn injuries as they were trying to remove a spool from the head of the gas well. Removing the spool was essential for installing the BOP (Blow-Out Preventer) that would have doused the fire before the final well-capping operation.

The injured are part of the six-member Alert team roped in by OIL to cap the Baghjan gas well, which has been spewing gas and condensate continuously for close to two months now since it suffered a blowout on May 26. After the incident, work at the site was called off. “The experts were provided immediate medical attention. It is expected that operations will resume at Baghjan on Thursday,” OIL said in a statement.
