Mallorca continues to decarbonize its transit, now with CNG minibuses
Mallorca has chosen to promote natural gas for regular interurban passenger transport now with nine minibuses powered by this clean fuel. The Balearic Government’s commitment to the use of CNG, in replacement of diesel, will allow it to become a national benchmark in sustainable mobility and respect for the environment.
Indcar was the bodybuilder chosen by Grupo Ruíz (one of the three companies awarded interurban transport on the island) for the manufacture of the nine CNG minibuses that will circulate in Mallorca. The public tender was called by CTM (Consorci del Transport de Mallorca) for Transportes de les Illes Balears, the transport authority in the community.
These are nine units of the Mobi City minibus, powered 100% by CNG and built on an Iveco Daily 70c14 CNG chassis. The innovation of these minibuses comes from the tanks patented by Indcar that allow a capacity of up to 510 liters compared to the 246 liters offered by the Iveco solution: twice the autonomy with the same passenger capacity. The minibuses are class II, with capacity for 31 passengers, 22 seats and space for PRM.
The island is in the process of renovating practically its entire bus fleet. In total there will be 223 new vehicles, of which 216 will run on alternative fuels instead of diesel: 198 with natural gas and 18 with electric propulsion.
