Diesel price crosses Rs 80 in Mumbai, Thane & Navi Mumbai

MUMBAI: Diesel rates in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai have crossed the Rs 80 mark. On Monday, the price of diesel in Mumbai was Rs 80.1 per litre while in Thane and Navi Mumbai it was Rs 80.2 at fuel pumps.
As many as 10 districts in Maharashtra have now breached the Rs 80 mark for diesel, which has transporters worried about a rise in prices of vegetables, fruits and other essentials.
“A hike in fuel prices always has a cascading effect. A course correction in freight is definitely required sooner or later for our survival as diesel makes up about 65% of the transport operating cost and toll 20%,” said Bal Malkit Singh, former president of All India Motor Transport Congress.
Petrol rate in Mumbai was Rs 87.2 a litre and in Thane and Navi Mumbai Rs 87.3. It was nearing Rs 90 in parts of the state, with the rate in Parbhani Rs 89.2.
After the lockdown, “labour and driver shortage is also a big issue which has hit our industry hard,” said Abhishek Gupta of Bombay Goods Transport Association.
