Coronavirus claims life of energy company executive

The coronavirus has claimed the life of the board chair for one of the world’s largest shippers of butane, propane and liquefied natural gas.

Belgium-based Exmar confirmed Friday that the company’s board chairĀ  Baron Philippe Bodson died following a battle with the COVID-19 virus.

“We express our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren,” the company said in a statement. In response to Bodson’s death, Exmar promoted CEO Nicolas Saverys to board chair while the company’s deputy CEO Francis Mottrie was promoted to CEO.

Founded in 1895, Exmar is one of the largest shipping and offshore oil and gas service companies in the world. Exmar’s office off the Sam Houston Parkway and Westchase Drive in Houston serves the offshore, LNG and liquefied petroleum gas industries.

Exmar owns nearly four dozen LPG tankers that haul propane and butane shipments from the Gulf Coast to destinations around the world. The company also owns 10 specialty LNG tankers known as floating storage and regasification units, or FSRUs, that move liquefied natural gas across the globe.
