Spanish logistics increasingly committed to NGVs to cut emissions

Ontruck, a Spanish operator of regional freight transport, and Gas2Move signed an agreement whereby the operator adds six Gas2Move trucks to its transport network in the Community of Madrid. The natural gas vehicles have 7.5 tons of payload and a range of close to 700 km, which will cover six delivery routes between logistics hubs in the metropolitan area of Madrid.

Its natural gas propulsion will allow the trucks to access Madrid Central and achieve a fuel savings of between 30% and 40% compared to diesel or gasoline vehicles. The six trucks together will avoid the emission to the environment of 45 tons of CO2 each year, compared to their equivalents in diesel, according to estimates of both companies.

“If we want to protect the planet, it is essential that we move towards more sustainable mobility models, and the commitment to less polluting vehicles such as Gas2Move ones is key to reducing the environmental impact of this sector. Therefore, our collaboration will not end here and we hope to add new NGVs in the rest of the regions where we operate. We work to optimize our transport systems through intelligent route management that avoids empty kilometers, to reduce unnecessary emissions and to move towards energy efficiency,” said Thiago Silva, Operations Director of Ontruck.

“The increase of natural gas vehicles on our roads and cities will have an incredible positive impact on the atmosphere. The agreement with Ontruck allows us to advance in this objective and bet together for a more sustainable transport, “said Andrés Nieto, Gas2Move Operations Director.

Gas2move fleet currently consists of 140 vehicles spread across ten Spanish cities: Madrid, Zaragoza, Huesca, Bilbao, Jerez, Algeciras, Malaga, Valencia, Barcelona and Seville. Practically, all of these vehicles are lightweight, focused on the last mile distribution, and many of them correspond to agreements that Gas2Move has reached with the main logistics companies operating in Spain.

This confirms the positive scenario the region is experiencing regarding alternative fuels adoption and sustainable mobility and where AltFuels Iberia 2019 is taking place this week at IFEMA Trade Fair Center, in Madrid. The event consists of first level conferences and exhibition of vehicles of all kinds, refueling stations, components, plants, road and marine engines, as well as the entire universe of the alternative fuels industry with the latest technological developments, multiple options for networking, business and new advances.
