Electricity Supply Company) has installed charging stations mainly on its office premises and the government-owned lands in Bengaluru. Bescom has so far installed 136 charging units at 70 locations in the city. It is planning to add them at 140 more locations by December.

Bescom’s plan is to have a charging station for every 5km in the city. EV users can download Electree Fi app to locate the nearest charging station, reserve a slot and pay for the charging session through cashless mode. However, Bescom’s earlier plan to set up a public charging station every 25km on both sides of the highways in the state is yet to see the light of the day. Many electric car owners said Bescom should install charging stations on highways from Bengaluru to places like Hubballi, Belagavi, Shivamogga,Tumakuru, Mysuru and Mangaluru. MG Motor and Tata Power have recently tied up to establish fast EV charging stations across the country.

t to share the agreed technical proposal and contractual terms, and conditions for development so that an Indian consortium can evaluate and decide further participation in the project. Pars Oil and Gas Company and Petropars Company on May 16 had signed a contract for the development of Farzad B field worth $1.78 billion for 28 million cubic metre a day of sour gas production in 5 years. In 2002, India bagged an exploration service contract (ESC) of the Farsi Block, under which OVL had a 40 per cent equity and Indian Oil and Oil India had 40 per cent and 20 per cent each. Farzad is one structure in the block.

According to the Indian consortium, it has the option to be part of the development contract of Farzad B, up to a minimum of 30 per cent participating interest — which was earlier confirmed by National Iranian Oil Company. The Iranians are yet to reply to the latest OVL letter. For the Indian consortium, getting equity investment, as well as technology has become difficult due to the sanctions. Other multinational companies, such as Total and China National Petroleum Corporation, also exited similar gas projects in Iran due to stricter US sanctions.

formed the bedrock of the industry. But nothing lasts forever, and with Japan’s LNG demand in long-term structural decline, China will this year become the world’s largest LNG market.

After a lacklustre 2020, Asian LNG demand firmly returned to growth in the first five months of 2021, with China the single biggest contributor. We now expect 11 Mt of demand growth from the country this year, meaning China will account for over half of the 18 Mt of the increase in global LNG demand forecast for 2021 and a little over one-third of global LNG growth in 2022. With its LNG demand bolstered by clear policy support and strong gas market fundamentals, China’s top spot looks assured for years to come. China imported more than 7 Mt of LNG that month, up 35% year-on-year.

Domestic production achieved 12% year-on-year growth in Q1 2021 to ensure supplies during the heating season, while piped gas imports also increased, rising by 5% year-on-year.

In the first of a series of Policy Briefing Events, the trade body presented ‘Biomethane: Fuelling a Transport Revolution,’ which analyses the issues facing the UK transport sector and explores the options presented by electric vehicles, hydrogen and biomethane.

A 2020 report by Element Energy shows that rapid deployment of biomethane for HGVs would reduce emissions by 38% over 10 years, whilst waiting for hydrogen/electric HGVs to be manufactured would deliver only 6% over the same period. Biomethane is particularly appropriate for public transport, long-haul logistics and food distribution vehicles, and is primed to play an increasingly crucial role in helping the UK achieve its Net Zero targets by 2030. The report also reveals that fueling HGVs with biomethane can cut well-to-wheel emissions by 80% per km driven, compared to diesel, and that the Return On Investment (ROI) for fleet operators is achieved within two years.

UK: London Mayor presents England’s first hydrogen double decker buses

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has launched England’s first ever hydrogen double decker buses, marking another major step towards making the bus fleet zero-emission.

The 20 new eco-friendly vehicles, which will cover route 7 between East Acton and Oxford Circus, will produce no pollution from their exhausts; they will reduce TfL’s carbon footprint and further reduce harmful emissions to help ensure Londoners breathe cleaner air. Passengers will also benefit from smoother, quieter journeys due to fewer vibrations.

The Mayor’s green transport investment is also supporting jobs across the UK. The buses were manufactured by Wrightbus in Northern Ireland, helping to create new jobs, and the gas cylinders are manufactured by Luxfer in Nottingham. The hydrogen for the buses is currently being produced at Air Liquide’s plant in Runcorn, harnessing waste hydrogen as a by-product from an industrial chlor-alkali plant. Oxford-based Ryze Hydrogen is responsible for transporting the fuel to the fueling station. From 2023, the hydrogen will be even greener as it will be produced by electrolysis powered by a direct connection to an offshore windfarm.
