Yamal LNG receives first tankers
The first of 15 ice-class LNG carriers, costing roughly $350mn each and intended for use by the Yamal LNG venture, have been delivered to ship-owners.The first of 15 new Arctic ice-class (Arc-7) LNG carriers required by the Novatek-led Yamal LNG venture have begun to be delivered to ship-owners, in preparation for start-up of the venture’s first train in northern Siberia later this year. Each has a cargo capacity of 172,600 m. and delivery of the new tankers is scheduled out to 2021.One shipowner Russian state Sovcomflot and three shipowning consortia – Canada’s Teekay in partnership with China’s China LNG Shipping (CLNG); Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) in partnership also with CLNG; and Greece’s Dynagas in partnership with both CLNG and China’s Sinotrans – won the tender to own and operate the ships. The Teekay consortium will own six; Dynagas five; MOL three; and Sovcomflot one, which it has already received.
