Wärtsilato supply 40-MW smart power plant to Kerala Electricity Board

Wärtsila will supply a 40-MW smart power generation plant to Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL).

The LNG-fired plant will be located at Brahmapuram.

The contract was awarded in June and the power station, delivered on a turn-key basis is expected to be commissioned by April 2017, said a press release issued by the company here on Tuesday.

The press release claimed that this was the first dedicated peaking power station ordered by a State utility anywhere in India.

Gas-fired power plant

It will also be KSEBL’s first gas-fired power plant.

The plant will start and stop twice a day and run at full capacity for four to five hour periods covering the morning and evening peaks in power demand, the press release pointed out.

The plant will comprise four Wärtsilä34SG engines running on natural gas and will replace two aged generation units that run on low sulphur heavy stock.

Natural gas

Switching from LSHS to natural gas will reduce the Carbon dioxide emissions by almost 25 per cent.
