All districts of Vidarbha will get natural gas easily for domestic, industrial and vehicular usage as Gail Limited has started to lay a gas pipeline along Nagpur-Mumbai super communication expressway, popularly known as Samruddhi Mahamarg.
Even before road traffic starts, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) has earned around Rs500 crore revenue by leasing out space for the pipeline. MSRDC vice-chairman and managing director Radheshyam Mopalwar told, “All districts in Nagpur, Amravati and Aurangabad revenue divisions will get City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks after completion of pipeline along Samruddhi Mahamarg. Already, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has floated tenders for allotment of licenses for CGB in these three revenue divisions.” The gas supply is expected to reduce pollution to a great extent, as clean energy will be supplied for domestic, industrial and vehicular purposes. Existing heavy industries at Jalna and Aurangabad districts will benefit. “It will also help existing industrial units in other districts and, most importantly, develop new industrial zones in these three revenue divisions to provide employment,” he said. MSRDC left huge space as ‘Right Of Use’ for utility services. Thus, the expressway is also benefiting other service providers, and people from one corner of the state to other. Gail Limited got land easily for laying gas pipeline. Otherwise, the public sector undertaking would have required to go for land acquisition and other lengthy processes, which was avoided due to expressway
Mopalwar said, “MSRDC gave 3 meter space along expressway for Gail Limited’s pipeline. MSRDC got revenue of Rs500 crore from this initiative. Remaining space will accommodate optical fibre cables, power, telecommunication or other such utility services. MSRDC said the pipeline from Nagpur to Thane along expressway can bring natural gas from Mumbai to Nagpur, or from Odisha or any other parts of the country, as this pipeline will be inter-linked to entire gas network of Gail Limited. Work of laying gas pipeline from city to Jharsuguda in Odisha is likely to start after monsoon. With CGB, license holders can lay pipeline across the city and distribute natural gas connections to all households for domestic purposes once gas pipeline of Gail Limited is charged. Work of laying pipeline from Nagpur to Thane is likely to be completed by December-end. Only issue is that the deadlines set by the state government for opening Rs55,000 crore expressway are passing by, and opening of road for traffic is still awaited. The last deadline was in February.
