Venture Global, Inc. and China Gas Holdings Limited have strengthened their long-standing partnership through a new 20-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement. Under the newly signed Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA), Venture Global will supply China Gas with 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of U.S. LNG, beginning in 2030.
The agreement represents another significant step in expanding the flow of American LNG into the Chinese energy market, while providing China Gas with additional long-term access to competitively priced natural gas supplies. The contract will run for two decades, extending through 2049 and supporting China’s growing energy requirements over the long term.
Following the signing of the new SPA, Venture Global’s total contracted long-term LNG offtake with China Gas has increased to 2.5 MTPA. These volumes will be supplied through Venture Global’s portfolio of LNG projects located in Louisiana, further strengthening the company’s position as a major U.S. LNG supplier with a growing international customer base.
Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel highlighted the company’s intention to deepen its relationship with China Gas while supporting China’s expanding energy requirements. He emphasized the role of reliable and competitively priced U.S. LNG from the company’s Louisiana projects in meeting long-term demand.
The agreement also demonstrates the continued importance of U.S. LNG in global energy markets. Long-term SPAs provide buyers with greater visibility over future gas supplies while giving LNG producers greater certainty regarding project revenues and offtake commitments. For China Gas, securing additional LNG volumes from the United States can contribute to supply diversification and strengthen its ability to respond to rising natural gas demand.
China Gas Chairman and President Liu Ming Hui said the company is pleased to deepen its partnership with Venture Global through the agreement. He noted that the deal strengthens China Gas’ LNG portfolio and supports its broader ambition to develop an international energy trading platform connecting global energy resources with growing demand.
The agreement also reinforces the increasingly interconnected nature of the global LNG market. Long-term supply contracts between U.S. producers and Asian buyers can provide greater flexibility in sourcing and help diversify regional energy portfolios. For Venture Global, the additional commitment from China Gas provides further visibility for future LNG production from its Louisiana operations.
Beginning in 2030, the additional 0.5 MTPA contracted volume is expected to contribute to China’s long-term LNG supply security while strengthening Venture Global’s international market position.
Chemical Commodity Price Impact
The agreement is positive for LNG demand and Venture Global’s contracted product volumes, improving long-term revenue visibility and supporting U.S. LNG project utilization. For China Gas, the additional supply strengthens portfolio diversification and reduces dependence on individual sources. In chemical markets tracked by ChemAnalyst, higher long-term U.S. LNG exports could modestly tighten domestic U.S. gas availability, potentially supporting natural gas and LNG prices over time. Higher gas costs may increase production expenses for gas-intensive chemicals such as methanol, ammonia, hydrogen and certain fertilizers, particularly where gas is a major feedstock. However, the 2030 start date limits any immediate commodity-price impact.
