Prayagraj: State’s first waste-to-CNG plant with a capacity to generate 21 tonnes of biofuel daily would soon become operational at Arail in Naini area.
Waste products like chicken litter and stubble would be used to make bio-CNG at this plant operated by a private agency. The biofuel produced would be supplied to residential areas of the city by Adani Gas Limited.
“The plant is likely to generate 21 tonnes of bio-CNG daily by mixing chicken litter along with wet-waste (fruits and veggie waste), stubble and cow dung (acting as bacterial growth). Rs 80 crore is being spent on the construction of the plant on 12 acres of land. The plant is first in the state and the second in the country after Indore,” said Prayagraj Municipal Corporation Uttam environmental engineer Kumar Verma.
The agency that built and operated the plant in Indore has been given the responsibility in Prayagraj also, he said adding that the PMC would give 200 tons of cow dung daily to the plant.
The biofuel would be supplied to the households of Naini and work for laying the pipeline would start soon by Adani Gas Limited which is already supplying PNG in several parts of the city.
The plant would be operated on a PPP model wherein the municipal corporation would arrange cow dung daily for the agency. The agency would build and operate the plant and arrange for chicken litter and stubble, he said.
Authorities have approved pipeline installation plans. Until the network completion, gas distribution will proceed via cylinders.
The municipal corporation would charge Rs 55 lakh annually from the agency in exchange for giving 200 tonnes of garbage daily. There will be an annual saving of Rs 5 crore spent on garbage disposal, Verma said adding that one-third of the city garbage would go to the plant.
