TT-Lines Order Dual-fuel ‘Green Ship’ for Baltic

TT-Line has signed a contract for construction of a new vessel, a so-called ‘Green Ship’. Delivery is scheduled for 2022, with option for another vessel. The order went to the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu Jinling. The vessel is to be used in the TT-Line network in the Baltic Sea. The vessel, 230 meters long and 31 meters wide, will be optimized in terms of efficiency and flexibility. Compared to last generation RoPax ships, TT-Line’s Green Ship will reduce emissions by more than 50 percent without having to slow down. This future-proof dual-fuel vessel can be powered by LNG (liquid natural gas). Compared to diesel fuel, LNG produces less carbon dioxide emissions and does not emit any soot during combustion, which means very low particulate emissions. LNG is also almost completely sulfur free and has low nitrogen oxide emissions. “Maritime transport is the most environmentally efficient way of transporting goods. TT-Line will set a new standard for reducing harmful emissions by choosing LNG as fuel for its innovative Green Ship. With its advanced and future-oriented technology, Green Ship becomes the most environmentally-friendly RoPax vessel in our geographical area of activity, “said Bernhard J. Termühlen, CEO of TT-Line. TT-Line’s new vessels are based on the company’s successful Green Ship concept and will accommodate 800 passengers and more than 200 trucks and trailers. Particular attention has been given to the design of the ship in terms of flexibility and fast turnaround calls in ports. “We expect a continued growing demand for short sea transport in the Baltic Sea. With this investment we can meet our customers’ needs and support their growth in an even more efficient way. At the same time, this vessel offers a modern and comfortable journey for our passengers in combination with the most environmentally friendly transport solution, “says Hanns H. Conzen, CEO of TT-Line.
