Transport department to ply CNG buses all across state
The state Transport department would ply CNG buses all across the state besides introducing electric buses in Rajarhat, Bidhannagar and New Town.
The CNG buses will ply all across the state. One bus will cost around Rs 1 crore, but its maintenance cost will be much less compared to those of the diesel-run buses. Moreover, the fuel cost will be much cheaper as gas costs lesser than diesel.
At present, some CNG buses ply in Asansol and Durgapur. Moreover, 10 electric buses would be plying in Rajarhat, Bidhannagar and New Town. Steps have also been taken to ensure ambulance facilities in Sundarbans, according to state Transport Minister. This comes at the time when the Transport Corporations have been revived after incurring loss for the past many years.
The Bengal Government has allotted Rs 50 crore to the state Transport department for further implementation of “Safe Drive Save Life” campaign across the state.
The Kolkata Police, each of the police Commissionerates and police department of each district have been allotted funds to implement “Safe Drive Save Life” campaign and to take other necessary steps to curb the rate of accidents in their respective areas.
Steps have been taken to install surveillance at strategic locations and at the same time, District Magistrates and Superintendents of police of all the districts were asked to file a report by identifying the accident prone zones. Necessary measures will be taken based on their reports.
