State-owned Indian Oil, GAIL, and NHAI assets have been chosen for monetization.

The government has identified core assets of major PSUs like NHAI, AAI, NTPC, and Indian Oil Corporation for monetisation until 2025.

Between 2022 and 2025, the government has identified core assets of major public sector undertakings (PSUs) such as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Airports Authority of India (AAI), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), GAIL, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and many others for monetisation through its National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP).

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), NHPC, Food Corporation of India (FCI), and Neyveli Lignite Corporation are some of the other public sector enterprises whose assets have been identified for monetisation.

According to finance ministry sources, the core infrastructure assets of these selected PSUs have been identified under NMP, as the government plans to boost its finances through the program, which have been severely impacted by the Coronovirus pandemic over the past two fiscal years.

While the government has exhausted its options for selling its stake in major PSUs, the NMP is designed to rent out assets owned by blue-chip state-owned entities to private entities, with the goal of raising funds through this method until 2025.

The government will generate revenue as a result of “unlocking value,” for which it has already begun identifying assets from these PSUs.

The NMP was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in August this year, with the goal of raising Rs 6-lakh crore over four years, ending in 2025, by monetising the Central government’s operating assets.

The NMP was created to tap institutional and long-term capital to unlock the value of investments in brownfield public sector assets.

As a result, non-government entities will be able to lease government-owned roads, railways, power plants, gas pipelines, airports, ports, and warehouses for a set period.
