Spain: Repsol opens two natural gas stations in Hernani and Mérida

Repsol has launched two new refueling stations that supply CNG and LNG. With these facilities, the company continues with its deployment of its own natural gas supply points in Spain. Repsol plans to expand its refueling infrastructure through the progressive development of a CNG/LNG network in the main transport corridors of the Iberian Peninsula, which will be reinforced in the near future with new openings thanks to its recent agreement with Nortegas.

The choice of Hernani (Guipúzcoa) responds to its consolidation as a “strategic pole” for low-emission refueling in the Atlantic Corridor, which connects, from Irún, the French border with Galicia. Likewise, the new station in Mérida (Badajoz) confirms the capital of Extremadura as a strategic point for the green transport route between Madrid and Lisbon. Both openings, funded by the European Eco-Gate project, are part of Repsol’s multi-energy strategy to become a net zero emissions company by 2050.

Currently, the energy company has operational stations in Hernani (San Sebastián); Seseña (Toledo); La Junquera (Girona); Guarroman (Jaén); Mojogallardo (Cádiz); Fontioso (Burgos); Sestao (Bizkaia) and Mérida (Badajoz), and Albatera (Alicante) will soon join.

The European Eco-Gate Project is a global action plan to promote mobility with CNG and LNG financed by the European Union with 10 million euros. It includes the construction of 21 natural gas stations located in the four developing countries of the project: Germany (1), France (1), Portugal (6) and Spain (13).

This project is one of the most ambitious in the conventional and renewable natural gas vehicle segment with the deployment of infrastructure along the Atlantic Corridor and the Mediterranean Corridor through new technologies and innovative solutions. Eco-Gate will enable the rapid and massive deployment of this alternative fuel thanks to a significant reduction in operational costs and a better understanding and awareness of customer needs.
