Scania Argentina presents the country’s first LNG-powered trucks

Scania Argentina received a delegation from the ENARGAS (National Gas Regulatory Entity) and the Transportation Secretariat to present the country’s first fleet of trucks powered by LNG. The six vehicles were acquired by the company Transporte Andreu, based in the province of Mendoza. Scania is the first to work together with ENARGAS to import this type of vehicles. “It is a proven technology, there are already more than 2,500 Scania trucks operating in Europe, which means that from the technological point of view the product is an efficient and safe solution that is aligned with Argentina’s energy grid. It is the first time that a vehicle that runs completely on natural gas, and more specifically on LNG, enters the country. So far existing vehicles were dual fuel and converted, but this is the first truck manufactured to operate exclusively with LNG,” explained Julián Rosso, Head of Sales Engineering. The six LNG-powered trucks acquired by Transportes Andreu S.A. will transport LNG, which was obtained through Galileo’s technology, thus forming a virtual pipeline. The fleet will begin operations in the coming days in Mendoza. These trucks are equipped with an engine of 9 liters and 5 cylinders, capable of delivering a power 340hp and a torque of 1600Nm. Moreover, it far exceeds the Euro 6 emission standard in force in Europe. “In addition to the reduction of the environmental impact, it is also important to note that these trucks offer a lower level of noise. So from the operational point of view it is an extremely powerful engine, very efficient and with a low environmental impact both in emission of gases and noise pollution,” added Rosso. On the visit of ENARGAS authorities, Guillermo Hughes, Senior Advisor of Scania Argentina, commented: “It was extremely positive. We explained some new concepts and showed the LNG-powered truck with the latest technology worldwide. The visitors had a very positive impression of the use of natural gas as a clean and economical fuel for transport.” Finally, Leonardo Andreu, director of Transportes Andreu S.A., said: “Always seeking to satisfy our customers in an innovative way, with the best technology and the least impact on the environment, we acquire these six Scania trucks powered by LNG. With these vehicles, we will be more efficient in the delivery of our services.”
