QUEENSLAND’S GLADSTONE PORT EXPORTED 1.5MN MT LNG IN AUGUST
Exports of LNG from Queensland’s Gladstone Port topped 1.5mn mt in August, according to data published by Gladstone Port Corporation. In July, exports were 1.4mn mt.
China, Japan, Singapore and South Korea were the major destinations. Shipments to China during August were 667,957 mt compared with 663, 878 mt in July. Singapore received 334,342 mt of LNG as against 268,769 mt in the previous month. Exports to Japan declined sharply compared with the month before. Total shipments to Japan in August were 132,447 mt vis-à-vis 269,534 mt in July. Exports to South Korea were 182,963 mt compared with 173,429 mt in July.
During the Jan-Aug period, total LNG exports from Gladstone were 10.89mn mt. Exports to China were 4.65mn mt, to South Korea they were 1.83mn mt, to Japan total LNG exports during the period were 1.32mn mt and to Singapore total exports were 1.28mn mt, the data showed.
With Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) shipping its first cargo in January this year, the three LNG projects on Curtis Island in Queensland, Australia became operational. In November, Bechtel, which has constructed all the three plants, officially handed over operational control of the Queensland Curtis LNG plant to QGC, and in October the Santos GLNG project produced its first cargo. GLNG’s second train began production in May.
