Peru’s FISE Finances CNG Conversions in Lima, Callao and Ica
In order to promote the use of more economical and less polluting fuels, Peru’s Fund of Social Inclusion in Energy (FISE) will finance the conversion of vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This was reported by the supervisory body for investment in energy and mining (Osinergmin), in its role as temporary administrator of the FISE.“We launched the CNG Vehicle Conversion program, which allow drivers who provide public transport, such as taxis and the like, to gain access to financing to convert their vehicle to CNG. In this way, we contribute to the massification of natural gas, providing beneficiaries a safe, economical and cleaner fuel”, explained Victor Murillo, head of the FISE Project.
He added that gain access to this benefit the vehicle must use gasoline or automotive LPG, be authorized to transport passengers, be not older than 10 years and pass the technical pre-inspection by the workshop where the CNG conversion is to be carried out.
“The funding will cover the cost of a sequential conversion kit and cylinder, initial certification, installation service, training and guarantees. The beneficiary will be able to pay back the amount funded in five years with a legal effective rate “, he said.
Accreditation workshops
As a first step, the program considers the selection and certification of workshops that will perform the conversions, so that the security and quality of service is guaranteed. To do this, Osinergmin convenes a “competitive examination for the selection of companies to implement the Program of Promotion of Vehicle Conversion to Compressed Natural Gas using FISE resources in Lima, Callao and Ica”.
“We invite interested companies to participate in this first call and take part in this program that will benefit many Peruvian families,” said the representative of Osinergmin.
Peruvian Congress Regulation (RCD) N° 172-2015-OS\/CD (August 2015) approves the procedure to promote the use of NGV with FISE resources; it refers to the powers of the administrator, criteria for identifying beneficiaries, choice of workshops of conversion, choice of certifiers, recovery of FISE resources, supervision of the programme, among others.
