Opel makes available 15 versions of LPG and CNG alternative drives
Opel is continuously extended its range of LPG models and now twelve of them are available, those being: ADAM, Corsa (three and five-door), Meriva, Astra (five-door, sedan and Sports Tourer), Mokka, Zafira Tourer and Insignia (four-door, five-door and Sports Tourer). Moreover, the manufacturer offers three natural gas options: Combo (passenger car and commercial van) and Zafira Tourer.
Last year more than 26,000 customers decided to buy an Opel LPG or CNG model giving the Rüsselsheim-based carmaker second place in the overall alternative fuel drive rankings. Opel is even the most popular when just considering LPG models and that popularity is growing. In the first two months of 2015, Opel saw LPG and CNG sales grow by around 35% compared to the same period of 2014, Italy is the most important market.
“Energy efficiency and CO2 reduction are extremely important for us throughout our portfolio,” said Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group. “Opel has a wide range of LPG and CNG vehicles and can offer real alternatives no matter what the requirements. The vehicles are not only eco-friendly; they are also especially economical and suitable for everyday use.”
At the beginning of 2015, more than 500,000 vehicles with LPG were registered in Germany. Furthermore, the German state has committed to maintaining the tax advantages for LPG vehicles until at least 2018. Liquefied petroleum gas is currently available at 7,000 fueling stations in Germany and more than 35,000 throughout Europe.
On the other hand, Opel’s CNG ecoFLEX engine has been optimized for use with natural gas, biogas or any mixture of both. In addition, the German government has committed to tax advantages for natural gas as a fuel until 2018, thus rewarding the eco-friendliness.
