Mr. Oliver Lancaster, CEO, Institution of Gas Engineers and Manager (IGEM), UK and Mr. D V Shastry, Executive Director, Natural Gas Society (NGS) India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in an online signing ceremony held on 21st Jaunary 2025 for collaboration on Gas Standards, Hydrogen Innovation, etc. This partnership aims to support the transition to net-zero emissions in India, leveraging UK expertise and technologies.
Through this collaboration, IGEM and NGS will work together to develop best practices and standards that facilitate the safe and efficient use of hydrogen in India’s energy landscape. Further, as the world shifts towards sustainable energy solutions, both organizations recognize the critical role of hydrogen in achieving climate goals.
The MoU further outlines plans for joint initiatives, knowledge exchange, and workshops all designed to enhance the understanding and implementation of gas standards and pathways to net zero carbon.
Natural Gas Society (NGS) is a registered Society in India, established in the year 2006 at the initiative of leading members of the Natural Gas industry. The objectives of NGS include (i) Promotion, facilitation, and furtherance of sustainable growth of Natural Gas in India, (ii) Representing collective interests of downstream and midstream Natural gas sector including the LNG business segment. (iii) Fostering and promoting the safe and healthy growth of the sector in the country through coordination of efforts for generation, dissemination / sharing of information & good practices and technology innovations relevant to natural gas. The members of NGS include major Oil & Gas Companies like GAIL, Petronet LNG Ltd., IGL, MGL, BPCL, IOCL, ATGL, ThinkGas and twenty more organizations from the Public Sector, Private Sector as well as Academia.
The Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM), United Kingdom is the professional Engineering Institution in U.K. supporting individuals and businesses working in the global gas industry. Its core role is to encourage the highest standards of professional competence amongst individuals working in the industry and help individuals stay up to date by delivering technical training and by providing support to the industry through the development of technical standards that are recognized around the world through networking events and conferences.
Licensed by the Engineering Council to award the professional titles Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer and Engineering Technician and support individuals to become professionally registered Engineers. Working with stakeholders from across the sector to demonstrate how the gas industry will help decarbonize the energy sector and represent Members’ views to inform and influence future energy policy.
