NFI boosts natural gas truck fleet

NFI Industries has expanded its natural gas fueled truck fleet with the addition of 12 compressed natural gas trucks to its Central Florida fleet.

The CNG expansion into Florida comes after NFI has expanded its natural gas fleet around the country.

“Even with fuel prices dropping, natural gas remains a sustainable, cost effective alternative to diesel,” said Bill Bliem, senior vice president, NFI fleet services, in a statement .

The price of diesel in December is down 30 percent from the same month last year to $2.28, according to JOC.com’s Market Data Hub.

The new trucks will reduce the emissions of NFI’s regional Florida operations by 20 percent and be deployed for a national home improvement retailer.

As natural gas fueling stations are still relatively rare nationwide, NFI teamed up with Gain Clean Fuel to build a CNG station in Kissimmee, Florida to support NFI’s operational needs.

NFI established its first CNG fleet in Los Angeles in 2012 and has since introduced CNG operations in Texas and Pennsylvania. The Florida fleet is the company’s first foray into CNG in the U.S. Southeast.
