Mexico: Queretaro renews public transport with natural gas buses
Under the slogan “In The Path Of Change,” the Queretaro Transportation Institute (IQT) launched 15
new CNG public transport vehicles -of a total of 57 units to be incorporated in the next few weeks- in
the metropolitan area of Queretaro. The initiative is part of a process of infrastructure renovation,
technology and momentum of modernity, which will cost 500 million pesos (local currency), and that
also seeks to benefit the environment.
IQT director, Alejandro Delgado Oscoy, and the leader of Metropolitan Taxibuses of Queretaro
Mayra Enid Melo Ramirez, expressed their commitment to join efforts to provide friendly and quality
service to users.
IQT director reiterated the great challenges still missing, such as adding new vehicles to cover the
shortfall of 250 units in the metropolitan area. “In addition, we have to demarcate public transport
in political issues and focus on citizens, professionalize transport drivers and replace diesel and
gasoline as fuels,” he said.
In this regard, the official explained that over the next 10 years they will have to transition to
vehicles with natural gas engine, put aside the diesel and gasoline, “natural gas and hybrid vehicles
are our options,” Oscoy Delgado added.
