Mexico: compressed natural gas research center opens in Michoacán

GNU Gas Natural has opened its new “Center for Research, Engineering and Technology Manufacturing for the Advancement of Compressed Natural Gas”, located in Morelia (capital of the state of Michoacán). The opening ceremony was attended by David Madero, Director of the National Center for Natural Gas Control (Cenagas), as well as other important figures in the public and private energy sector.

“This is the first center of its kind in the country, which is the result of a joint effort with the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT),” explained Daniel Cadenas, director of New Business Development of GNU. He also added that the projects required a construction and technological qualification of an industrial warehouse of 1,500 square meters, with an investment of more than 1.6 million dollars.

The manufacturing center mainly designs and manufactures technology for the use of compressed natural gas, including decompression, regulation and measurement equipment of natural gas focused on the industrial market and which will be present in the national market with the Tectuus brand. Cadenas said that one of the center’s main goals is to develop a national technology platform that minimizes the technological dependence of foreign products for the use of CNG.

“The center will start with the production of three products mainly: decompression, regulation and measurement stations of natural gas, CNG loading and unloading posts and modular storage systems for the transport of CNG (skids),” added Cadenas. GNU expects to have a production and placement of at least 40 products in the first year of operations, with a focus on the domestic market in a first stage. Future goals include participation in international markets.

This highly favorable scenario with a growing marketplace and venue for the natural gas sector will host Altfuels Mexico 2018 taking place on 23-26 April at the World Trade Center of Mexico City.
