Mexico City introduces 30 new CNG vehicles for Ecobus system

The Mayor of the City of Mexico, Miguel Angel Mancera Espinosa, launched a fleet of 80 buses featuring with sustainable technology. “We will be in this line working and improving everything that has to do with transportation in the city. It is part of the commitment to the Law of Mobility, with security, comfort and a better quality of life,” said the official.

Among the 80 Euro V vehicles, 30 are powered by natural gas. The latter, which will be aimed at renewing the vehicle fleet in the Ecobús’ Metro corridor Balderas-Santa Fe (Route 1), have 31 seats and a maximum of 81 passengers, equipped with a manual ramp for people with disabilities, subject wheelchair in three different positions and a space for people with visual disabilities with guide dog area and security cameras with closed circuit.

The other 50 diesel buses, aimed at strengthening the regular service of the various routes of the Passenger Transport Network (RTP, as in its Spanish acronym), have 28 seats and maximum of 90 users, and 20% have devices that provide accessibility to people with disabilities and surveillance cameras.

The launch event was also attended by RTP’s general director Laura Itzel Castillo Juarez, who remarked the agency’s social commitment to the deployment of these new buses that will guarantee a decent, safe, accessible and environmentally friendly transportation service. “We will work hard to make to make real our mission keeps the same: providing public transportation to underprivileged people and those living in outlying areas, thus contributing to the consolidation of a new system of mobility,” he said.
