Mahanagar Gas Limited introduces India’s first Mobile CNG Refuelling Unit

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), one of the India’s leading Natural Gas Distribution Companies, has for the first time in India introduced Mobile CNG Refuelling Unit at Ajivali near Panvel on old Mumbai-Pune Highway. This Mobile CNG Refuelling Unit was inaugurated virtually by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas on 8th June, 2021.

The Mobile CNG Refuelling Unit introduced by MGL is developed under the guidance of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas along with the active support of GAIL India Ltd. and Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO). The Mobile Unit has followed due processes and completed trial runs after receiving initial clearance from PESO. The Mobile CNG Refuelling Unit is equipped with CNG filled cascade enclosed securely with safety systems along with instrumentation and control systems. The unit incorporates a dispensing unit and a reciprocating pump for boosting the pressure during the delivery of CNG.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is rapidly gaining popularity as the pollution – free fuel for fuelling vehicles and due to increasing demand customers need to wait in long queues at some CNG stations. In urban areas where scarcity of land restricts the setting up of more CNG stations, MGL’s Mobile Refuelers are ideal vehicles to serve customers faster at their place of convenience whenever and wherever. The Mobile Refuel Unit can be driven to various customer locations like residential buildings, garages of fleet owners, open parking areas of malls, business complexes or similar customer locations to fuel the vehicles during the vehicles idle time.

Once the refuelling unit is filled to full capacity it can refuel around 150 cars or 350 three wheelers. The real utility of these Mobile Refuelling Units would be when these are replicated in urbanized areas where there is scarcity of land for setting up of CNG stations.

Developed under a partnership business model, MGL’s first Mobile CNG Refuelling Unit will be operated in association with Uttam Luxfer India Private Limited. MGL plans to expand its fleet with prospective business partners across Mumbai Metropolitan Region in near future.
