Joint venture proposed for gas distribution project
The Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation and Gail Gas Ltd have proposed to float a joint venture company to implement the city gas distribution project in the state.
The company has been proposed for implementing city gas distribution (CGD) projects – supply of Piped Natural Gas to households and Compressed Natural Gas – in various cities and towns in the state, excluding Bengaluru. Gail Gas Ltd has already taken up implementation of CGD project in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts. The state Infrastructure Development Department has sought the Cabinet approval to float the company. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to chair the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The CGD will be implemented in cities and towns such as Belagavi, Gokak, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Vijayapura, Dharwad, Davangere, Harihar and Tumakuru that are located along the Dabhol-Bengaluru gas pipeline alignment. However, the company has to participate in the bidding process that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) conducts to obtain licence to implement the project. Besides, the Revenue Department has proposed to fix a nominal fee for regularising illegally built dwelling houses on plots measuring not more than 30/40 sqft each on the government land within certain limits of urban local bodies.
