IVECO gets approval for the first natural gas truck in Argentina

IVECO Argentina is the first company in the country to have the homologation certificate to manufacture compressed natural gas trucks with an LCM (Model Configuration License). The brand, which positioned itself as the first to promote this alternative fuel in Argentina with the launch of its “Natural Power” range, is now enabled to manufacture its new CNG Tector truck in its 160E21 configuration, a national product that will have the highest technology, design and equipment.

“With a history of more than 20 years developing and commercializing vehicles powered by cleaner fuels in Europe, we are proud to be able to apply that experience and technology in Argentina, a country with a great present and future in terms of energy development,” said MárcioQuerichelli, head of IVECO South America.

“The CNG Tector will be one of the production innovations at our Industrial Park in Ferreyra in the province of Córdoba, which will resume activities in August. This new addition will accompany our entire line made in Argentina, ranging from medium vehicles to extra heavy trucks,” added Querichelli.

This truck will be the first vehicle of the “Natural Power” range to be produced in the South American country. It expands this range and has a rigid version and 4×2 configuration with the 160E21 designation and is powered by the NEF 6 engine, OTTO cycle of the FPT Industrial brand with 210HP and 750 Nm of torque. The new configuration will offer equivalent performance to diesel trucks, lower noise emissions and, in addition, will have a cost reduction of up to two thirds in relation to fossil fuels.

“The project was a great challenge. Our specialists carried out a series of exhaustive tests to obtain certification and reach the final objective of manufacturing the first national CNG-powered truck. This was an important achievement for the brand that we hope will contribute to the development of our country,” concluded the brand manager.

The vehicle has six CNG tanks, each with a capacity of 80 liters, allowing an approximate range of 300 kilometers. In addition, it has a front parabolic suspension, a tranmission with six gears in the front and a driver’s seat with air suspension. It also offers a modern and ergonomic interior with a gear shift control integrated into the dashboard.
