IGL Sets Up Gas Plumbing Training Centre at ITI Nizamuddin
In a bid to provide additional vocational skills on laying of City Gas Distribution networks to ITI trainees, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the supplier of CNG as well as PNG in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad has set up a Gas Plumbing Training Centre at Industrial Training Institute, Arab Ki Sarai, Nizamuddin in New Delhi.
The centre has been set up in coordination with Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE), Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
Inaugurating the Centre, PunyaSalilaSrivastava, IAS, Secretary, DTTE called for strong engagement between industry and academic institutions to enhance employability of the students being imparted technical education. She emphasized the need for proactive approach towards meeting aspirations of today’s generation which is very confident about what it wants to achieve in life.
Thanking IGL for setting up the Centre, she stressed on the need for students to learn safety practices from IGL so that the students get tuned to work in safe environments wherever gas networks are being set up across the country.
Explaining the rationale behind setting up the Centre, E.S. Ranganathan, Managing Director, IGL said that this centre is an effort to provide opportunity to young Indians to be a part of the nation building process by skilling themselves in area of gas plumbing. Detailing the movement of the country towards a gas based economy, he added that the students can even look at becoming entrepreneurs after gaining experience in the sector for a few years as the city gas sector is poised for enormous growth across the country.
The Gas Plumbing Training Centre has been set up by IGL as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme aimed at enhancing vocational skills for livelihood enhancement.
Earlier welcoming the guests, Manoj Kumar, IAS, Director, DTTE highlighted the need to create value in the academic programmes being run by technical institutes so that the students obtaining the trainings are able to get appropriate employment in the market to commensurate with needs of the industry. He added that the academic institutes need to work closely with the industry to understand their needs and equip the students with the desired skills.
V. Nagarajan, Director (Commercial), IGL proposed vote of thanks on the occasion and expressed gratitude to officials of DTTE for making this centre possible.
The gas plumbing training programme at the centre would be for 10 working days to provide skills on Piped Natural Gas Distribution to the trainees and each batch would comprise 30 trainees from Plumber and Fitter Trade. The training would be mix of Theory and Practical. The trainees would be provided practical training relating to fusion of joints, cutting pipes, squeezing MDPE pipes, working in confined space using breathing apparatus and working in high rise buildings. The programme will also try to facilitate placement of trained students with the stakeholders of IGL engaged in laying pipeline network.
The role of IGL in checking the vehicular pollution in the National Capital Region is well acknowledged both at national as well as international forums. IGL has well laid out its city gas distribution infrastructure in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad which consists of over 10000 Kms of pipeline network. IGL is meeting fuel requirements of over 8.5 lakh vehicles running on CNG in NCR through a network of over 400 CNG stations. IGL is supplying PNG to nearly 6.7 lakh households in Delhi and NCR towns.
