Govt finalising LNG tariff with Qatar’

Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) MNA Talal Chaudhry has said the government was finalising Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) tariff, its rate with Qatar, storage terminal and distributors like SNGPL to ensure its uninterrupted supply to consumers.

Talking to journalists here on Thursday, he said that the government was going to purchase LNG at cheaper rates than India. He said that there was no choice other than LNG to fullfil energy requirements. There is practice of at least 20 years contract deal to purchase and import LNG round the globe on the mutual rates. It is very important for Pakistan to ink the contract deal, he said.

He said “If we go for spot purchase it is not suitable as more than 80 per cent LNG is being sold by contract deals.” He added that the PML-N leadership was committed to end the energy crisis by 2018.
