Gazprom Commissions 14 New CNG Filling Stations
Gazprom used a videoconference within the context of the early-October St. Petersburg International Gas Forum to commission multiple new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations across six districts of Russia.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Board of PJSC “Gazprom” Viktor Zubkov, Chairman of the Board Alexei Miller, representatives of federal and regional authorities, heads of departments of “Gazprom”.
New CNG stations were opened in Barnaul, Borisoglebsk and Semiluki (Voronezh region), Veliky Novgorod, Gatchina (Leningrad region), Ipatovo (Stavropol Territory), Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo region), Novosibirsk, Orsk (Orenburg region), St. Petersburg , Tomsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Ufa and Yaroslavl. Total capacity of the CNG station is about 100 million cubic meters of natural gas per year. Every day, they will be able to fill up about eight thousand units.
New gas stations in the Altai Territory, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions have completed the formation of natural gas transportation corridors between major cities and administrative centers of Western Siberia. The station in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is the first in the Sakhalin region and the easternmost in Russia. It marked the beginning of the formation of the natural gas motor fuel market in the region. CNG stations in Yaroslavl, Semiluki and Boris Gleb were the first stations to be built in these cities.
“The economic benefits and environmental benefits offered by the use of natural gas in road transport are obvious. The Russian motor fuel market has huge potential for development. Gazprom is consistently expanding the natural gas filling network today it is replenished with 14 new stations in six federal districts of the country. Every year, there will be more stations,” said Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board.
According to Gazpro’s website there are currently 303 CNG stations in Russia, of which 238 are owned by Gazprom.
The cost of 1 m3 of gas for transport in Russia is 13 rubles on average (USD $0.21).
