Gas Natural Fenosa will expand CNG station network in Mexico
During 2017, Gas Natural Fenosa plans the construction of 18 CNG stations, of which 10 will be located in Mexico City, five in Monterrey and three in the Bajío region, where on April 10 a station located in the state of Aguascalientes will start operations. The investment for each of these facilities is USD 4 million, which will have the potential to serve 10,000 cars a day. The expectations include serving 180,000 NGV drivers this year.
“Cars that run on natural gas can generate 50% savings in fuel costs. Its use extends the life of the engine and they emit a lower level of noise, in addition 90% less particles are emitted causing respiratory diseases,” said Mauro Juárez Bautista, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations of Gas Natural Fenosa Mexico.
He said that some of the refueling stations in the country are evaluating the possibility of incorporating a CNG dispenser within its offer. “Some station operators have been evaluating the possibility of having bi-fuel stations,” he said. Only in Mexico City there are more than 3.5 million cars, which means that there is potential for reconversion, especially in public transportation.
“The investment for the conversion to bi-fuel cars is 35,000 to 40,000 pesos. Regarding public transport, it is an investment that can be recovered in a period of two and a half to three years. In five years, a taxi driver can not only pay for the conversion of the vehicle, but also buy a second car with the savings generated,” added Juárez Bautista.
This highly favorable scenario with a promising marketplace and venue for the natural gas sector will host Altfuels Mexico 2017 taking place on 4-7 April at the World Trade Center of Mexico City.
