Gail to set up 41 CNG stations at Seraikela-Kharsawan

As part of its major expansion plans, Gail Gas Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gail (India) limited will set up 41 CNG stations and will supply gas to 2,20,000 households with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) over a period of eight years. The initiative is being taken under its City Gas Distribution (CDG) projects in Saraikela-Kharsawan.

V Gautam, general manager, marketing, Gail Gas Limited, said, the authorisation was granted to GAIL Gas Limited for Saraikela- Kharsawan district and West Singbhum district during 10th round of bidding by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). The CGD Projects of Saraikela- Kharsawan District and West Singbhum district will supply Compressed Natural Gas for transport Sector and Piped Natural Gas for households, Industries & commercial units.

Addressing the media after the launch of awareness campaign at a city hotel on Thursday, V Gautam informed, “Saraikela-Kharsawan CGD Project will cover 2657 sq. kms area in the district and a network of 600 inch kms will be laid in the district, benefiting a population of 10.65 lac. The supply of Piped Natural Gas to industries and commercial units will also help in reduction of pollution in the region”.

He informed that the cost of City Gas Distribution (CGD) projects in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan and West Singhbhum districts will be worth around Rs 1,200 crore.

The GM further said that West Singhbhum CGD Project will cover a 7224 kms area in the district.

The district will have 5 CNG stations and approximately 6028 households will be connected with Piped Natural Gas in the first phase. A network of 100 inch kms will be laid in the district, benefiting 15 lac population.

The main source pipeline for the CGD projects will be GAIL’s Jagdishpur-Haldia- Dhamra-Bokaro Pipeline.

Earlier, Jharkhand Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affair minister, Saryu Roy inaugurated a customers’ meet and awareness campaign for the city gas distribution project. Addressing the gathering, Roy said, “Piped gas supply is a dream come true for people of the state as we will have an alternative fuel option available for the consumers.”

Apart from Seraikela-Kharswan and West Singhbhum districts, he said GGL has also been authorized to supply piped natural gas in Giridih and Dhanbad districts, where work will start from this year end.

Currently, GGL operates 70 to 80 CNG stations that supply piped natural gas to 3,800 commercial units and 600 industrial houses in the country.
