Gail Gas to stop supply to 12 glass units
Gail Gas Limited has expressed its inability to supply natural gas to 12 glass factories located between Gopal Ashram and Rasoolpur, near National Highway-2, following safety concerns.
The Gail’s notice stated that the gas pipeline on NH-2 passes through the service lane and is beneath the RCC road, hindering its proper maintenance. In case of any leakage or mishap, it would be very difficult to control the situation.
The 12 factories are situated close to this pipeline.
In a letter to the district magistrate and deputy commissioner (industry), Gail recommended shifting of factories to the industrial area.
However, industrialists are not happy with the recommendation. Khalid Ahmed, owner of Kohinoor Bangle Industries, said, “The company should have raised objection when the pipeline was being covered under the RCC road. Due to Gail’s failure, we will be the sufferers. In 12 factories, some 10,000 labourers are working. It will be very difficult to shift the factories on such a short notice. We will meet the officials and try and find a solution to our problem.”
