Encouraging natural gas and solar enery for clean air: Noida DM
DA: With the intention to improve air quality in Noida in the next phase of its drive the district administration have started to replace all petrochemical units into natural gas based, phasing out of all diesel cars by March 31 and encouraging of solar panels in houses. DM NP Singh said that nearly one lakh cars are belong to IT companies. All IT companies have promised to phase out diesel cars. The companies will ask its employees to either use CNG cars or participate in car pooling.
DM NP Singh told TOI that there are other measures have to be taken to make city pollution free. “Initially we had introduced staggered timing now we are going to further expand the initiatives,” DM said that district administration have spoken to the petrochemical industry representatives and residents too.
“We had a meeting the petrochemical units owners they have agreed to cooperate to shift their units from petrochemical to natural gas. We have also spoken to the IGL (Indraprasth gas limited) for this cause. Apart from that we had a meeting with Noida’s RWAs and urged to promote solar panels and replace generators from solar panels,” Singh said.
“RWAs of sector 35, 45 and 36 have promised to enaure adoption of 100 percent solar panel,” he added.
On further explaining the details Singh said that he had spoken to IT companies running in the city to phaseout all diesel vehicles into CNG.
“There are nearly one lakh cars belong to IT companies. We have spoken them and they have promised to phase out all diesel cars to CNG by March 31, this year,” he further said.
“By this month all taxis belonged to IT companies will be phased out. However IT companies will also encourage its employees to either change their cars into CNG or participate in car pooling,” Singh said.
TOI had first reported that to decrease pollution level and decongest traffic from city roads staggered timing is implemented in industrial units, schools and markets. From January 1 staggered timing has been implemented.
There is mix reaction on staggered timing concept in Noida. Some markets, which were supposed to be closed used to open on while factories are cooperating in the staggered timing.
The district administration said initially it will appeal people in Gandhigiri style and if in the coming days this rule isn’t followed then stringent action will be taken.
“In the coming days our officers will urge and convince people to adhere to the concept for the sake of their and their loved ones future. Even if anybody violate rules then stringent legal action will be taken against violators,” Singh added.
