Azerbaijan: Large explosion near natural gas field – News
A large explosion occurred Sunday evening near a natural gas field in the Caspian Sea off the coast of Azerbaijan.
Videos of the incident show a large flame rising from the sea. The background is not yet clear.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources said Sunday evening: “According to a recent study by experts, the eruption was caused by a volcanic eruption”. Experts from the Ministry and the Seismological Center in Azerbaijan are currently investigating the eruption.
The government agency reveals itself in contradiction
The state energy company Sokar initially announced that a “mud volcano” had erupted under the sea – but did not explain how the huge fire broke out. After a while, the column was removed from the first report.
The group then split Twitter With: “No accidents at sea bases and industrial plants under the direct control of Soker, and works continue normally.”

Azerbaijan’s “Committee to Protect the Rights of Oil Workers” said a fire had broken out at an old research site in the gas sector.
The most important gas production areas in Azerbaijan are located in the Caspian Sea. Most of the gas is exported to Europe.
Meanwhile, there were speculations on social media that a ship might have exploded. State shipping company CJSC is to the contrary.
